Student Stories: Accommodation at Exeter
Choosing your university accommodation is an exciting step, but we know it can also come with lots of questions. What’s it really like to live there? What if you don’t get your first choice? And how does accommodation fit into day-to-day student life?
Below you’ll find a collection of blogs and videos created by Exeter students. These honest, first-hand stories give a real insight into what living in different types of accommodation is like, from rooms and locations to social life and settling in.
Living off campus and in the city
Living off campus can be just as rewarding as on-campus life, offering easy access to the city, close links to campus, and a vibrant community that helps you make the most of your student experience, even if you don’t get your first accommodation choice.
Off campus University accommodation

Student Hima shares her experience of living in St David’s, an off-campus residence close to St David’s train station and the Streatham campus, and why it’s been a great place to live. Read Hima's blog post »
Approved partner accommodations
Approved partners have been carefully selected to provide quality, moderns facilities and a safe environment for students, in attractive locations around the city.
If your university accommodation journey doesn’t quite go to plan
Some students don’t end up in their first-choice accommodation, because several of our residences receive far more applications than we have rooms available. Students who come to Exeter through Clearing, are unlikely to have as much time or as many options when it comes to accommodation.
But one of the most common things students tell us is that they were pleasantly surprised by where they lived, often finding unexpected benefits like a great social atmosphere, easy access to campus or the city, supportive communities and lasting friendships.
Reasons not to worry if you don’t get your first choice of accommodation
Student Eve shares her experience of not getting her first choice of accommodation and why where she ended up living exceeded her expectations. Read her reassuring blog or watch her video, where she explains that accommodation is just one part of your university journey.
We hope that by hearing directly from students who’ve been in your position will help reassure you that you’ll find your place at Exeter.
