University of Exeter - GREAT Scholarships *January 2026 entry*

In partnership with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign, the University of Exeter is offering three £10,000 scholarships to students from Ghana or Turkey applying for an eligible one-year postgraduate taught (Masters) programme for January 2026 entry. 

The GREAT Scholarships programme, launched by the British Council together with selected UK universities, supports international postgraduate students from 18 countries to access world-class UK higher education opportunities.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for one of these scholarships at the University of Exeter, you must:

• be a citizen and resident of Ghana or Turkey (and therefore classed as an International student for fees purposes)
• have an undergraduate degree that will enable entry to a postgraduate programme at the University of Exeter
• be motivated and academically able to follow and benefit from a UK postgraduate taught course
• be active in the field with work experience or with a proven interest in the proposed subject area
• meet the English language requirement and other academic requirements for your chosen postgraduate programme
• be willing to embody the UK Higher Education experience, by attending lectures and tutorials and engaging with extra-curricular activities, and act as an ambassador for UK Higher Education, by promoting the value of studying at a UK HEI
• be willing to establish an engagement with the UK as a scholar, through personal and academic fulfilment
• represent the high standards of the GREAT brand by becoming an advocate for scholarships
• be willing to attend events or participate in other activities organised by Study UK and the British Council for all UK-based GREAT scholars, including social media activities to discuss experiences and capture perceptions of studying in the UK
• be willing to demonstrate future contribution to capacity-building and socio-economic advancement through the benefits achieved after graduating from UK higher education
• be willing to maintain contact with the British Council and act as an ambassador for the GREAT Scholarships, by sharing experiences of studying in the UK with future GREAT scholars
• as an alumnus of the GREAT Scholarships, be willing, occasionally, to speak to potential candidates about your own experience of studying in the UK.

How to apply

You can apply for this scholarship if you are already holding an offer for one of the following one-year, campus-based, full-time Masters programmes in the University of Exeter's Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy, commencing in January 2026.

Only the programmes listed above are eligible. (Postgraduate Certificates, Postgraduate Diplomas, Degree Apprenticeships, fully online or distance learning programmes are not eligible.)

A personal statement (of no more than 300 words) will be required as part of the form, responding to three questions about your interest in this scholarship opportunity:

1. What are your ambitions for the future and how will your studies at Exeter help you to achieve them?
2. What will you contribute to the study experience/environment on campus at Exeter?
3. As a GREAT scholar, how might you act as an ambassador for the University?  

Applications for this scholarship scheme close on 30 October 2025. Eligible candidates will be notified of the outcome of their scholarship application by the end of the day on 19 November 2025.  

These scholarships are intended for self-funded students and cannot be combined with any other University of Exeter tuition fees scholarship/discount, or deferred.
