2024-25 programme focus: 'Sustainable Leadership'

  • A 2-week programme recognised with a certificate of attendance.
  • The programme aims to introduce you to a range of cutting-edge concepts and theories linked to sustainability and leadership.
  • In the context of sustainability, you will learn about social enterprises, entrepreneurship and socio-materiality in the Circular Economy.
  • Within the theme of leadership, you will cover leadership theory and motivation. You will develop impactful communication skills and build a graduate skills portfolio through team-building, networking and in situ business visits.
  • By the end of the module, you will have covered a range of cross-disciplinary topics based on the University of Exeter’s key specialism areas, extended your personal network, and expanded your graduate profile in readiness for employment of post-graduate study.

The summer school program is focused on providing international students with an opportunity to engage in academic courses, cultural exchanges, and personal development activities, all while experiencing life on a university campus in the UK. 

In addition, the University of Exeter is a Times Higher Education 2024 Top 10 Global Research Leader, offering cutting edge expertise in the fields of sustainability, leadership and engaged learning.

Finally, the programme is delivered at our Penryn campus in Cornwall, a UNESCO-designated area of outstanding beauty boasting over 360 miles of captivating coastline. Our award-winning campus provides an inspiring environment for your next leadership role or postgraduate journey.

The program is open to undergraduate students who are currently enrolled in our partner Universities. In addition:

  • Applicants must be 18 or above by the start of the programme
  • Their must hold an English language qualification: CET 4 (College English Test, Level 4).

The summer school will offer lectures, workshops, field-trips and team building activities as ways to engage with the University of Exeter’s key areas of expertise in leadership, innovation and business entrepreneurship.

It is not, but students will receive a certificate of attendance and will be able to access the University of Exeter’s Alumni and Progression scholarship.

There is no formal assessment on the programme but you will encouraged to maintain a digital, continued professional development portfolio, which can then be used as part of an application for postgraduate study.

The program fee covers tuition, accommodation, and some meals. However, participants are responsible for their travel expenses, personal expenses, and other meals.

Cultural integration is a key component of the summer school. Activities may include excursions to historical sites, museums, workshops on local customs, language classes, and social events that encourage interaction with local students and the community.

Yes, please bring your own computer equipment.

All materials are provided on our digital platform. We will share course-related digital materials electronically.

Please make sure you are able to attend all days of your chosen summer school pathway. We recommend arriving on Sunday, ahead of an early morning start to the first day on Monday. Please discuss your particular circumstances with your university.

Smart casual attire would be appropriate for lectures and business visits, while comfortable, outdoors clothes would be best for the adventure style activities. Please remember to bring swimsuits, sunscreen and towels.

7-bedroom flat are fitted with a well-equipped kitchen which includes the following; oven, hob, toaster, kettle, microwave, TV, Iron and Ironing board. Cooking items in all kitchens; baking tray, bread Knife, cereal bowls, cheese grater, colander, corkscrew/opener, desert spoons, forks, knifes, ladle, dinner plates, drying rack, fish slice, large frying pan, measuring jug, mugs, oven proof dish, potato masher, potatoes peeler, saucepan, sugar bowl, teaspoons, tin opener, glass tumblers, vegetable knife, water jug, washing bowl & wooden spoon

Bedroom; beds are made up; mattress protector, sheet, duvet with cover, 2 pillows with cover, wardrobe with coat hangers.

En-Suite Shower Room; 1 bath towel (2x bath towels for double occupancy), 1 hand towel (2x bath towels for double occupancy), 1 toilet roll, 1 plastic cup (2x plastic cups for double occupancy), 1 hand soap, 1 bathmat.

Housekeeping; either once weekly or at changeover.

Laundry facilities; there is laundry rooms in the blocks and use is operated via an ap.

Smoking & Vaping – no smoking is permitted within 5 meters of any building. And no vaping is allowed in any of the accommodation

Fire Alarm; if the fire alarm sounds you are required to evacuate the building without fail

Wi-Fi; Wi-fi is available throughout campus access via your devices

Lost Key Charges; Please keep your key in a safe place. Your room door is not self-locking so please ensure you lock your bedroom when required. A charge of £25.00 will be levied for any keys that are not returned to Glasney Lodge on the day of departure. An additional £10.00 will be charged if the key includes an electronic fob. 

Security there is 24/7 security and rooms are accessed via secure entry systems and there is CCTV in operation. Glasney Lodge reception located at Glasney Student Village is open 24/7 for any students who need assistance.

Laundry facilities – there is laundry rooms and to use this facility it is operated via an ap.
