Module description
This module will introduce you to the processes and tools of human resource management to enable you to attract, retain, and foster talent within your startup, scale ups, and established organisations, adopting a long-term perspective. It will prepare you to deal with the growing pains of successfully scaling an organisation, as well as how to identify the right systems and structures that are appropriate to your organisational type. It will encourage a developmental mindset, equipping you with the skills to practically manage and grow talent within your organisation.
This module can only be taken by students on the MSc Entrepreneurship Innovation Management degree.
Module aims - intentions of the module
This module aims to equip students with a fundamental grasp of how to construct organisations and lead people. Recognising that managing others is a vital part of the entrepreneurial venture we will explore core HRM topics such as talent attraction, selection, and development, whilst providing students with an overview of employment law. Our ambitions within this module are to create entrepreneurs who are sensitive to the organisational and people challenges tied to venture creation/growth. On completion of this module students will be able to analyse and evaluate the role of the entrepreneur in creating viable organisations.
Employability
Upon completion of this module students will have gained vital skills in building and managing their teams. These practical skills will have a direct impact on their ability to start and grow effective organisations.
Sustainability
Whilst this module does not include sustainability as a core subject area, references are made to sustainable/green HRM practices, and how HRM contributes to organisational sustainability.
