During the summer vacation prior to entering the final year, each student is required to obtain practical or research experience by undertaking a period of a minimum of four weeks duration working with industry/organisation, or on a research project. The placement will give you practical skills, a better idea of working professionally, the opportunity to earn a good reference and possibly a job offer. The placement report gives experience of writing and receiving feedback on a report ahead of the third year project.
This module provides you with experience of working in industry/an organisation or on a research project. You will keep a journal to ensure that you can show evidence of an effective, relevant and useful work experience to record on your CV and to show to prospective employers upon graduation.

A short session is arranged with your cohort during your second year of studies to explain the requirements of the work placement report and to understand the procedures for arranging a non disclosure agreement (NDA) if necessary. A work placement handbook is provided to you laying out the requirements of the placement, the report and the obligations of yourself to the employer and to the university. There will be regular sessions throughout year 2 as preparation for the placement. Placement opportunities will be advertised when they become available.
