DESCRIPTION - summary of the module content

This module brings together and consolidates all your learning from the degree course to give you the skills, confidence and ability to launch your own business. You will work with a personal mentor, academic staff in Engineering and the Business School and with staff in the Innovation Centre (business development manager, intellectual property specialist) to develop a personal development plan.

You will learn and experience what it means to be an entrepreneur; how to find funding sources, access finance, complete tax and administrative documents as well as set-up and dissolve a limited company. You will build on the knowledge gained in Years 2 and 3 around project management, learn how to deal with scope creep, develop a marketing strategy and network with potential clients. 

This course continues study initiated in ECM1101, ECM2112.

Prerequisite module: ECM2112 or equivalent

AIMS - intentions of the module

The key aim of this module is to enable you to develop the skills and competencies to be an entrepreneur and to apply these in a practical engineering way by setting up your own business. 

It will give you the opportunity to apply your imagination and creativity to design and develop a new product or system in a safe environment supported by the University’s resources.

This is a constituent module of one or more degree programmes which are accredited by a professional engineering institution under licence from the Engineering Council.
