This module brings together and consolidates all your learning from the degree course to give you the skills, confidence and ability to launch your own business. You will work with a personal mentor, academic staff in Engineering and the Business School and with staff in the Innovation Centre (business development manager, intellectual property specialist) to develop a personal development plan.
You will learn and experience what it means to be an entrepreneur; how to find funding sources, access finance, complete tax and administrative documents as well as set-up and dissolve a limited company. You will build on the knowledge gained in Years 2 and 3 around project management, learn how to deal with scope creep, develop a marketing strategy and network with potential clients.
This course continues study initiated in ECM1101, ECM2112.
Prerequisite module: ECM2112 or equivalent
The key aim of this module is to enable you to develop the skills and competencies to be an entrepreneur and to apply these in a practical engineering way by setting up your own business.
It will give you the opportunity to apply your imagination and creativity to design and develop a new product or system in a safe environment supported by the University’s resources.
