Module description
Energy Storage is a rapidly developing field in response to the need to decarbonize energy systems through renewable energy. Bloomberg New Energy Finance predicts explosive growth over the next 12 years. This module provides an in-depth understanding of key energy storage systems. You will study mechanical energy storage (e.g., pumped hydro, compressed air), various batteries (lithium-ion, redox flow, lead-acid), and the hydrogen economy, including hydrogen production, storage, and fuel cells. Emphasis is placed on cost-effectiveness, environmental compatibility, and sustainability. You will analyse case studies, evaluate technological advancements, and conduct basic design calculations.
