Module description
In this core module, you will explore the main theories that have been proposed to explain why people commit crime, along with the institutions and practices societies have developed in response. You will critically engage with both classic and contemporary debates in criminology, including issues of policing, punishment, prisons, race, gender, and social justice. You will examine how these theories are reflected in, and challenged by, current criminal justice policies and practices. By the end of the module, you will be equipped to critically evaluate contemporary responses to crime and contribute meaningfully to ongoing debates in criminology and criminal justice.
