2. Description of the Programme
The MSc Finance and Management provides a good foundation in finance together with an overview of management functions within an organisation. It is an ideal qualification for anyone wanting to start or progress their career in the finance function of an organisation and then move into general management later. It is relevant to working in small business where the ability to control finances is essential, within the finance function of large business organisations, and also in public sector organisations.
The modules in the first term provide you with a foundation in financial management, investment decisions and research skills in finance, as well as an introduction to the main ideas and functions of international business and marketing. In the second term you will study corporate finance, strategy, plus four additional options. In addition, intensive computer training covering Thomson Reuters Datastream and other financial database software systems, is incorporated into relevant modules. The programme offers a choice of the full range of options in both finance and management; it is possible to tailor this programme to match your career goals.
The programme also offers you an opportunity to specialise in ‘Sustainable Finance’ pathway in response to the growing importance of sustainable practices and the evolving demands of the finance industry. Building on the core knowledge and skills developed in their programme, you will learn to apply academic learning to real-world sustainability challenges. You will be introduced to ethical issues and dilemmas in financial decision-making and encouraged to consider the social, economic and environmental implications of your professional behaviours and decisions. You will understand the key factors that underpin the science of climate change, and the ways in which the finance sector can support the transition to a sustainable, low-carbon economy.

1. provide students with an in-depth training in the skills necessary to analyse problems arising primarily in the field of investments and selected areas of management and to reach reasoned solutions to these
2. bring students up to date with results and issues arising in selected areas of academic research in both finance and management
3. provide students, through practical sessions, with the additional skills necessary to apply their knowledge to complex situations arising currently in financial markets and to offer research backed solutions to complex management problems
4. equip students to follow careers such as investment analyst or portfolio managers, or enter research programmes.

Your MSc Finance and Management programme is a 9 month programme of study at National Qualification Framework (NQF) level 7 (as confirmed against the FHEQ. The programme is also divided into units of study called ‘modules’ which are assigned a number of ‘credits’. The credit rating of a module is proportional to the total workload, with 1 credit being nominally equivalent to 10 hours of work.
This programme is available for study nine months full-time over three terms from October to June and is University-based throughout this time. During the programme you will study modules totalling 180 credits.

7. Programme Regulations
with 'Sustainable Finance pathway'
You must take a total of 60 credits of eligible modules and must achieve a minimum of 50% in at least 45 of these credits to be awarded the pathway. In other words, you must pass a minimum of 45 credits of the eligible modules and cannot be condoned in more than 15 credits

Personal and Academic tutoring: It is University policy that all Colleges should have in place a system of academic and personal tutors. The role of academic tutors is to support you on individual modules; the role of personal tutors is to provide you with advice and support for the duration of the programme and extends to providing you with details of how to obtain support and guidance on personal difficulties such as accommodation, financial difficulties and sickness. You can also make an appointment to see individual teaching staff.
