When marking essay submissions, we look at 5 areas:

  1. That your argument is well developed and that you have taken a critical approach to the question.
  2. That you have researched the topic, including specific references where appropriate. Show your critical thinking skills by commenting on the point you’ve referenced, thereby adding your own views/argument to the discussion. In other words, when using quotations from external sources, make it clear what they are adding to your argument - do you agree/disagree
  3. That your essay is well structured, with a well-developed introduction, paragraphs with clear signposting of your argument, and a strong conclusion
  4. That you have written an articulate response, which develops an original and interesting response to the question.
  5. That your spelling, punctuation and grammar are accurate throughout
