Art, music and culture
Fine art and sculpture
The University has almost 1000 important and diverse artworks worth over £2 million - exhibitions are held in various places on campus regularly.
The University’s free sculpture walk, which includes works by Barbara Hepworth, is a great way to see the Streatham Campus – there are 25 sculptures set both in the open and in University buildings. View our sculpture collection.
Music
The musical life of Exeter is dynamic and varied, including everything from Open Mic nights in the bar to a full-size classical Symphony Orchestra in the Great Hall.
If you sing or play an instrument, there are plenty of performance opportunities through the student music societies, ranging from Jazz, Folk and Concert Band, through Change Ringing and World Music, to large ensembles such as the University Orchestra, Choral Society and Musicals.
The University provides the venue for dozens of gigs in the Lemon Grove (known as the ‘Lemmy’) and the Great Hall. The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra perform Classical concerts throughout the year.
Theatre
The Streatham Campus is home to the Exeter Northcott, Exeter’s professional repertory theatre. The Theatre hosts productions by touring companies and amateur societies, including the University’s Footlights Society, the Exeter Theatre Company and the Gilbert and Sullivan Society.
The Bill Douglas Cinema Museum
The Bill Douglas Cinema Museum (free admission for all) contains both a public museum and an academic research centre, housing one of Britain's largest public collections of books, prints, artefacts and ephemera relating to the history and prehistory of cinema.
Providing a research collection of international stature, the Centre illustrates the development of optical recreation and popular entertainment from the late 18th century to Classical Hollywood and the present day. Complementing the University's existing extensive resources for the study of popular culture, the Collection's 18,000 books give Exeter the country's largest University library on cinema.

Penryn Campus, Cornwall
The Penryn Campus, which we share with University College Falmouth, has a selection of conference and meeting venues, complemented by the latest in audio-visual equipment including video-conferencing. Weddings, parties and other functions
We have a choice of good quality venues available on our Exeter campuses for your wedding, Christmas party or dinner and dance, including the elegant and historic Reed Hall, set within beautifully landscaped gardens. Visit our celebrations pages for more details.

Our sports facilities have benefited from a multi-million pound investment programme with further investment planned, meaning that Exeter's sporting provision is amongst the best in the UK.
Exeter Campuses
- Main hall, the largest in the South West; two additional sports halls; indoor traversing wall and lead wall
- Tennis centre with four indoor and four outdoor courts; five squash courts
- The Russell Seal Fitness Centre is 200-station air-conditioned health and fitness studio; two exercise studios; advanced conditioning studio; physiotherapy suite
- Heated indoor swimming pool (St Luke's); outdoor swimming pool (Streatham).
Facilities for outdoor sport include:
- Topsham Sports Ground - two soccer pitches, two minor-counties standard cricket squares, and lacrosse facilities
- Olympic-standard water-based synthetic pitch, regularly used by National Hockey Squads
- Multi-User-Games-Area (MUGA) providing five-a-side on a sand-based synthetic pitch
- fleet of Lark dinghies at the Roadford RYA Sailing Centre; well-equipped boathouse on the Exeter Canal.
Penryn Campus
The air-conditioned Penryn Campus Sports Centre offers the latest fitness equipment, free-weight area, fitness studio and resident physiotherapist. Regular classes include aerobics, cardio kick, ab-blast, dance, yoga, pilates, and relaxation, as well as one-off classes such as break-dancing. A multi-use games area offers an all-weather, floodlit facility for five-a-side football, hockey and tennis for use by sports clubs and societies.
