Professor Robbie McDonald discusses badger cull

The Environment and Sustainability Institute’s Professor Robbie McDonald, a specialist in wildlife management, has contributed to the debate on the controversial issue of how best to manage tuberculosis (TB) in cattle.

Speaking to journalist Quentin Cooper on the BBC Radio 4 Material World programme on the 18 October, Robbie McDonald outlined the scientific issues, uncertainties, and challenges of managing the disease associated with the current government policy of badger culling.

Listen to Robbie’s contribution (starting at 6m 40s into the broadcast) by visiting the BBC Radio 4 Material World website.

Following a week of intense media coverage of the issue, MPs today voted (147 to 28) to halt next summer's proposed badger cull- a decision which is not binding on the government.
