Fascinating ‘bitesize’ presentations from leading academics will reveal how Living Systems research at Exeter is pioneering a new approach to treating the world’s most serious diseases.
Talk to fellow alumni over drinks and canapés and find out more about the exciting work going on to develop the Living Systems Institute. This £50 million interdisciplinary research centre will bring together mathematicians, physicists, cell and molecular biologists, biomedical scientists and engineers to transform human, animal and plant health.
Hosted by Professor Nick Talbot, FRS - Deputy Vice-Chancellor, hear from researchers including:
Professor Sarah Gurr – Chair in Food Security, Biosciences who will outline the global challenge posed by pests and pathogens to global food security.
Professor Gero Steinberg – Professor of Cell Biology, Biosciences who will deliver insights from his ground-breaking research into disease-causing fungi
Professor John Terry - Professor in Biomedical Modelling, Mathematics who will explain how mathematical models can unveil hidden patterns in clinical data, potentially revolutionising our approach to diagnosing epilepsy.
Professor Jonathan Mill - Professor of Epigenetics, Medical School who will discuss how nature and nurture interact to cause mental illness.
Presentations will be followed by networking and refreshments.
