2016 African Archaeology Research Day (AARD)

The Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies (IAIS) at the University of Exeter will host the 2016 African Archaeology Research Day (AARD 2016) meeting on Saturday, 26 November.

Event details

Welcome to AARD 2016

We are pleased to invite you to the 2016 African Archaeology Research Day (AARD) meeting, which will be hosted on Saturday 26 November by the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies (IAIS) at the University of Exeter - the first time it has been held at Exeter.

By way of explanation, the move to Exeter from Manchester, where AARD 2005 was hosted and where AARD 2016 was originally to be held, is because the lead organiser, Timothy Insoll, is joining the IAIS in September.

There will be a full schedule of papers with a series of themed parallel sessions, small group panels, and posters, which will be available to view on Saturday 26 November, and all held within the fantastic building of the IAIS.

Following on from the recent successful AARDs held at Bristol and Stirling, our focus is once again upon African archaeology in all its many forms.  MA and PhD students are as welcome to present research as more established scholars and papers are invited on all the themes that have been previously included:

1.      Africa in the wider world
2.      Pleistocene Africa
3.      Heritage management in Africa
4.      Recent fieldwork and discoveries
5.      Technology, conservation and material culture
6.      Climate, landscape and resource use

We very much look forward to welcoming you to Exeter in November.
