Event details

This year’s Women and Leadership Reception combines networking with useful insights on the theme of Overcoming Challenges in Your Career.

As well as the usual career setbacks, women can face additional challenges when it comes to caring for children or elderly parents. Our event gives you an opportunity to discuss these and other issues with fellow graduates and to gain ideas and advice through a choice of practical mini-workshops on the following subjects;

  • Interviews and a CV clinic
  • Conversation – Getting What You Want
  • Being a Square Peg in a Round Hole
  • Changing Direction in Your Career

Our workshops will be run by experienced alumnae, including Liz Butler (Maths 1982), Deborah Hallett (Dip Leadership 2002), Debbie Hill (Drama 2006), and Hilary Thomson (English 1978). More detailed profiles of the speakers can be found on the attachment at the bottom of this page. The workshops will be limited and allocated on a first come, first served basis on the evening.

The reception is hosted at The University Women’s Club, one of London’s most elegant and welcoming venues, newly reopened after a major refurbishment. The Club has a fascinating heritage and its members include many high achieving women across industry, government and academia, making it the perfect setting for an Alumnae event.

This event is organised by the Alumnae Group, who work with the University to support our female graduates (alumnae). The Alumnae Group’s events are fast acquiring a reputation as an enjoyable way to meet like-minded women while furthering your career. By combining informal networking with practical skills and inspiring insights the group help women to make the connections and build the confidence they need to succeed.

Please note that this event is now fully booked. For any other enquiries please contact us at alumni@exeter.ac.uk.
