About the session

What makes a good research bid?

The session will be interactive looking at how funders make decisions, what qualities they look for in a well written competitive bid and common reasons for failure. Practical tips will be provided on effective bid preparation including pointers for interview stage.  This session will provide steer at a more elementary level for inexperienced grant writers.

EPSRC and NERC will be the main funders of focus.

The instructor

Dr Pamela Johnstone was originally a researcher herself before managing multi-million pound research portfolios for large research funders. She has considerable experience in research, research strategy, development and management within the contexts of Higher Education, national research funding organisations and research institutes. As a Research Development Consultant she provides inside knowledge of research funder assessment and what makes grants competitive.

Audience

Researchers with little or no grant writing experience who would like to apply for EPSRC and/or NERC funding.
