Lifting the lid on the REF: the role of public engagement

Open discussion with the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement

Event details

Who should attend?

Relevant for researchers and professional services staff from all disciplines.

Session aims:

We will address the following questions:

  • How can we best frame the contribution and role of public engagement as a ‘pathway to impact’?
  • How did Public Engagement with research (PER) feature in the Research Excellence Framework 2014?
  • How can PER feature as a pathway to impact?

What is the session about?

Sophie Duncan, Deputy Direction of the National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE) will present this session.

Close to half of the REF 2014 case studies featured public engagement, offering a rich source of information about how engaging the public with research is leading to impact.

Join this interactive session to find out how public engagement fared in the REF, and explore what we can learn about how academics made sense of public engagement as a route to impact.
