Translation Studies at the University of Exeter

Our MA in Translation Studies at the University of Exeter provides not only a rigorous foundation in the academic field of Translation Studies, but also excellent professional training for careers in the language services industry.

We are one of the UK’s leading centres for teaching and research in French, German, Hispanic Studies, Italian, Russian, Interdisciplinary Studies, Medieval Studies, Film Studies, and Sexuality and Gender Studies.

We offer excellent MA programmes and are home to a Foreign Language Centre with modern language-learning facilities.

Our research and teaching expertise spans the fields of literature, linguistics, film studies, history, philosophy, visual arts, sexuality and gender, from the Middle Ages to the present day, as well as literary and specialist translation. All teaching is directly related to our research. We attach particular importance to the quality of research supervision and training along with the integration of postgraduates into our academic and research community.

It was a big decision to quit my job and move to another country for further study. I chose Exeter because it is one of the best universities in the UK for Modern Languages.

The Translation Studies course is a combination of theory and practice. All the lecturers are professional and supportive and as well as lectures there are language-specific workshops where tutors give advice on translation in specific topics.

One of our modules The Translation Profession has given me experience of using CAT (computer-assisted translation) tools, which are very useful whether you want to be a freelancer or work for a translation company.
