Turing Scheme

The UK Government has launched a new £110m Turing Scheme designed to offer global mobility opportunities for 35,000 students annually.

"The Turing Scheme is the UK Government's scheme to provide funding for international opportunities in education and training across the world,"

Placements that take place from September 2021 to August 2022 and are from four weeks to 12 months in duration will be funded.  Students will not need to apply to the UK Government for funding.  The University of Exeter will administrate the Turing Scheme funding and will support students with their application paperwork when further information about the scheme becomes available.

During the academic year 2021-22 students will be sent information about the Turing Scheme and updates to existing Erasmus+ funding via their Exeter email and the Outbound Teams sites.

How much funding will I receive under the Turing Scheme?

Students will receive funding to support their cost of living during a placement.  Funding will be grouped into three categories: Group 1 (high cost of living), Group 2 (medium cost of living), Group 3 (low cost of living).

Students on a higher education placement lasting between four and eight weeks will receive:

  • To Group 1 destinations: £136 per week
  • To Group 2 and 3 destinations: £120 per week

Students on a higher education placement lasting over eight weeks will receive:

  • To Group 1 destinations: £380 per month
  • To Group 2 and 3 destinations: £335 per month

These grants will be in addition to any student finance participants may already qualify for or are in receipt of.

Additional support for those from disadvantaged backgrounds:

Participants from disadvantaged backgrounds on a higher education placement will receive a higher cost of living grant.

Students on a higher education placement lasting between four and eight weeks will receive:

  • To Group 1 destinations: £163.50 per week
  • To Group 2 and 3 destinations: £147.50 per week
