About the award
Applications are invited by the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies for one PhD studentship in the field of Kurdish Studies, to be held in the Centre for Kurdish Studies. One studentship is available and eligibility is confined to students from the Kurdistan Region in Northern Iraq. We anticipate that the studentship will begin in October 2014,
Your research project may be in any discipline of the humanities and social sciences as applied to the study of the Kurds and Kurdistan, including (but not limited to) political science, history, geography, sociology, folklore studies, religious studies, anthropology and gender studies.
The studentships cover the cost of tuition fees (at the UK/EU or international level) and provide a maintenance grant of up to £12,600 a year. As part of the studentship, award holders will undertake 80 hours of work for the Centre per year during their period of registration.
Your University application form and additional documents submitted will be used by the selection panel in their decision making. The selection process for these awards will take place during May 2014 and interviews will be held by Skype in the second half of May. The successful applicant will be notified in early June 2014.

How to apply
To be eligible for a Studentship you must have applied for PhD study at the University of Exeter by completing our online application form and received an offer of a place on one of our programmes.
In addition you will need to complete an online web form where you must submit some personal details and upload the following documents by 11.59pm on 30 April 2014:
• Covering letter - outlining your academic interests, any prior research experience and reasons for wishing to undertake this project
• Research proposal - including the name(s) of the potential supervisor
• Transcript of your highest qualification to date or an interim transcript if you are still studying
• IELTS/TOEFL certificate - where applicable. The required level is IELTS 7.0.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified graduates. You should have at least a 2:1 degree, and have or expect to have a Masters degree or equivalent, at a high Merit or distinction level, in a relevant humanities or social sciences discipline.
