Industry experience available to all students through summer placements or Year in Industry

Hands-on courses with an emphasis on practical project work using specialist equipment

Engineering at Exeter combines science, creativity and critical thinking to drive innovation and change in response to some of society’s biggest challenges.

We teach the full breadth of Engineering with classic options in Mechanical, Civil and Electronic, as well as the addition of Entrepreneurship and Management pathways that link Engineering with Business. A core first year gives you the reassurance and flexibility that you have made the right choice in your specialism.

We prioritise a hands-on approach to learning with a focus upon practical project work. We’ll support you in developing a creative, confident and logical approach to problem solving, making you a highly valued graduate and opening doors to a wide range of exciting careers.

The best thing about my course is that it’s allowed me to complete an industrial placement during my summer break.

I’ve gained vital work experience while having it count towards my degree, relieving the pressure on my final year and giving me a taste of life after university.

Improvement works

To support our redesigned Engineering curriculum we are investing in both improvement works and essential maintenance works in the Harrison building.

We’re making a £6.5million investment in our Engineering teaching laboratories, workshop spaces and new equipment which includes:

  • Student project space, run by students for students
  • Dedicated composite materials and geotechnics labs
  • New state-of-the-art equipment
  • Modernisation of the engineering workshop and electronics labs
  • Adaptable teaching and storage space in the fluids lab
  • New vehicle assembly area

Scheduled for completion in December 2021, these works ensure that our students have access to the best possible facilities during their time at Exeter. Find out further information on our website.
