Careers and your future
Six months after graduation, 95% of our graduates were in employment or further study, such as a Masters or PGCE.*
As well as studying a subject you are passionate about, getting a great job after graduating is one of the main reasons for going to university. We will help you acquire the skills and experience to compete in an increasingly international job market or pursue further study. We offer an exceptionally wide range of opportunities to gain the graduate level skills, experience and expertise that employers are seeking. As well as access to our range of University-wide employability initiatives, planning your future career and skills development is also embedded within our degree programmes, through modules on employability and opportunities to spend time in industry.
We are the university of choice for many career-minded students and employers from all sectors; locally, nationally and internationally. Employers recruit graduates who can show evidence of team work, leadership or who have spent time travelling and experiencing new situations and cultures. Everything you do socially, academically and in the workplace can make you more employable. We will help you to identify and articulate these skills to prospective employers.
Our Careers Consultants and Information Teams, based in the Career Zones, and at information desks on the Streatham, St Luke’s and Penryn campuses will provide advice and guidance to help match your skills and interests to a career that will suit you.
Award-winning careers programmes
Our employability programmes won the AGR Blue Ribbon Award presented by the top graduate recruiting companies in Europe and beyond – the first time this award has ever gone to a university. We have also received several other national awards for delivering outstanding services including work placements, social enterprise support, commitment to the employability agenda, support for student entrepreneurship and sustainability learning for employability. Our Green Consultants initiative is an industry-recognised, award-winning training programme involving facilitated learning for students interested in pursuing a career with an environmental or sustainability focus.

Over the past few years, Procter & Gamble has begun to actively recruit at the University of Exeter. We have been impressed with the calibre of the University’s students, with the willingness of the departments to partner with industry and the great enthusiasm of the students.

The Career Zone has been an invaluable asset during my time at university. Having students working at the Career Zone reception is a fantastic idea, and it allows for some real peer-to-peer assistance, from people who have often been through the same experiences you have. When I’ve needed more detailed advice, the Careers Consultants have offered great support and direction, and the CV reviewing services have given me more confidence when applying for internships. Along with this, the new Hub system introduced last year has given the Career Zone a greater outreach than ever before; friends of mine have now utilised careers facilities they were often previously unaware of.
