Other benefits

There are many other benefits of working at the University of Exeter which contribute to the overall quality of life and work for our staff:

Environment

The Streatham Campus, which is the biggest of the three University sites, is built around a country estate overlooking Exeter and the surrounding countryside. The campus is one of the most beautiful in the country with lakes, parkland, woodland and gardens with many rare species of plants and trees.

Take a look at our beautiful campuses.

The St Luke’s campus is just over a mile away from the Streatham Campus across the city, and is 10 minutes’ walk from the city centre. St Luke’s offers modern facilities in a traditional setting which has retained its vibrant, collegiate atmosphere in which everyone soon gets to know each other.

The Cornwall Campus at Tremough near Falmouth is an exciting new campus The campus’s stunning main buildings have been equipped to deliver the very best in learning and teaching facilities, with teaching labs, lecture theatres and seminar rooms equipped with the latest technologies.

University facilities

Staff have access to a number of facilities throughout the University including those for sport (sports hall, indoor and outdoor tennis, swimming pools and fitness centre). Arts, leisure and entertainment facilities include the Northcott Theatre, The Bill Douglas Centre for the History of Cinema and Popular Culture, and regular music concerts.

Childcare

There is a small nursery on the Streatham Campus for about 40 children. The University is looking to make arrangements to extend the nursery facilities on campus. The nursery accommodates children of students and staff between 3 months and 5 years. Visit the Family Centre website. There are other private nurseries and childcare facilities within the Exeter area: information from Devon County Council. Information on local schools is also available on the Devon County Council web site.

The University also operates a Childcare Voucher Scheme under a salary sacrifice arrangement. For more information see Financial Benefits.

Travel

The University promotes a green travel policy. It provides a shuttle mini bus service from the St David’s railway station and supports a cross-city Stagecoach bus service to and from ‘park and ride’ facilities at Sowton.

Cycle to work

The University has joined up with Cyclescheme for employees of the University to use cycles through a government scheme to encourage people to cycle to work.

Season travel tickets

The University will provide an interest-free loan for an annual season ticket subject to the certain conditions

Parking

For those who must use a car to travel to the University, there is a relatively small charge for most staff (which can be deducted from monthly salary) for access to private car parks on the University campus, which operates on a first come basis.
