Travelling by bus locally

Buses in Exeter High Street

A new Stagecoach line 4 University service is now in operation bringing a range of benefits for colleagues and helping to reduce the use of cars for business travel between our campuses.  Colleagues including those from the Guild and UPP etc. will continue to have the opportunity to travel for free between campuses and also to and from St David's train station between the hours of 7am - 7pm. To take advantage of this, colleagues will just need to show their staff card to the driver.  The Guild and other third parties on our campuses will need to continue to show the University ID cards with the Stagecoach bus logo on that they pick up from reception.

The new service connects more key areas across the city and continues to provide free inter-campus travel for colleagues with the use of your staff card. It also improves service times – every 12 minutes, from 6.00am until midnight, and reduces journey times as the route takes advantage of the new bus corridor in the city centre.

Here is the  New Line 4 Bus timetable and Map. Live bus times from Cranbrook, Court Royal can be found here and from Pennsylvania, North Park Road here.

This service replaces the University minibus services. To get to St Luke's from St David's station take the Number 4 Cranbrook bus  - see the live timetable link above for exactly where St Luke's is - the bus will stop outside Waitrose on Heavitree Road.

To get to Streatham campus from St David's station or St Luke's, take the Number 4 bus to Exeter University. Again live links above.

A 30% Stagecoach ticket discount has been introduced for colleagues and this will apply to all Devon destinations served by Stagecoach. See below for more info.

Students can also take advantage of discounts - see the drop down menu below and here.  The student Night Bus service has also changed– it is now called the Uni line and follows a new route running closer to the students’ residences.

The line 4 will connect the following areas, allowing inter-campus travel and links with key locations:

  • Streatham Campus
  • St David's Station
  • Central Station
  • Exeter City Centre
  • St Luke's Campus
  • Honiton Road Park and Ride
  • Exeter Science Park
  • Cranbrook

The new service route means that journey times will be reduced and services will be speedier as buses will be using the new bus corridor in front of John Lewis, instead of needing to drive through the pedestrian zone, which forces drivers to travel at walking speed.

How to access the Stagecoach colleague discount

To purchase discounted tickets via the Stagecoach Bus app, colleagues will need to scan an activation QR code - which can be found here. If you don't have an exeter.ac.uk address please email: sustainability@exeter.ac.uk and we will be able to help you. Full instructions how to activate the app can be found here: Info About Stagecoach Corporate App. After scanning the QR code you have to click on get app again even if you already have it. Find out about options for students below.

More saver options will be available. As well as the daily and one-week tickets, a four week, 13 week and 52 week ticket saver will also be available.

To meet the demand for flexibility due to remote working, it will also be possible to purchase Flexi 5 and Flexi 10 fares via the Stagecoach app, which offer groups of five or 10 day tickets at a particularly low price.

Please find  FAQ for changes to University minibus and Stagecoach service here.  If you have any further queries about the new service please email sustainability@exeter.ac.uk
