Bringing your family

Dependent visas

Your dependents can apply for their visas at the same time as you or at a later date.

Costs vary depending on the type of visa, duration and whether the application is made in the UK or overseas. Full costs and how to apply can be found here:

Nurseries/schools/colleges

The University is committed to supporting staff who maintain responsibilities as a carer alongside their job. Whether these responsibilities include caring for a child or caring for another dependent, we aim to work with our employees to facilitate a good work/life balance. There is a range of information available on the parents and carers website

Nursery facilities

Childcare facilities are available on both the Streatham and Penryn Campus; details of the facilities can be found on the childcare page.

You can check if a childcare provider is registered on the Ofsted website. You can also use Ofsted’s ‘Find an inspection report’ facility to find childcare providers and childminders in your area and see how they are performing.

School information

For information on finding a primary or secondary school place in your catchment area please use the Gov.uk web pages.

Bringing a pet

If you are planning to bring a pet to the UK, please check you can do this and get your pet microchipped, vaccinated and a pet travel document. Full details can be found here: Bringing your pet dog, cat or ferret to Great Britain: Microchip - GOV.UK

Note that if you are planning to rent accommodation, you will need to check with your landlord/letting agent to see if pets are allowed, many do not allow tenants to have pets, and this may limit your choice of accommodation options.

Language classes

Our partner INTO runs an English Language class for family members. Once you get your IT details you will be able to register your family member on the course. To find out more and register here.

Support to find work

As well as finding all our current vacancies here, we can also introduce your dependents to our Temporary Staff Bank. This is a great introduction to the University.

Our casual and temporary workers provide the University with short-term ad hoc support for up to 12 weeks. Depending on the type of support required, workers can be assigned through various routes including the Casual Claims process, the Temporary Staff Bank, or as Self-employed suppliers and External Examiners. These processes are managed by the Temporary Resourcing Unit, in PS Connect.
