Take Action in Lab Practices

Research labs are vital hubs of innovation—but they also consume substantial energy and resources. From high-powered ventilation systems and ultra-low temperature freezers to benchtop equipment and computing infrastructure, nearly every aspect of lab operations presents opportunities to reduce environmental impact.

By adopting best practice methods, lab spaces can operate more sustainably—reducing energy consumption, optimising resource use, and contributing to a greener, more efficient research environment. These efforts not only support institutional sustainability goals but also align with the growing expectations of funding bodies, many of which are beginning to mandate green lab accreditations.

Sustainable Labs have provided a variety of resources, including posters and stickers, available at each campus to help lab spaces communicate messages of sustainable practices.
