Campaigns team

The Marketing Operations Campaigns team are primarily responsible for the production of marketing materials for the Undergraduate and Postgraduate (Taught and Research) course programmes. This includes overseeing the production of the prospectuses, subject brochures and associated publications, and also producing and updating copy for the undergraduate and postgraduate websites. We also produce e-communications throughout the year to encourage applications. This work also includes organising photo and video shoots, liaising with colleges, updating content on referral websites and assisting at internal and external recruitment events and Open Days. We continually look for new ways to communicate with our prospective customers and strive to be ahead of the curve in terms of our marketing approach.

We also undertake corporate communications campaigns for the University, for example the Annual Review, HR campaigns and the Graduation brochure.

Who we are

Campaign Manager (Cornwall)

About my role

I am the Campaign Manager for both Cornwall campuses – Penryn and Truro, based at the stunning Penryn Campus. My main focus is on promoting the University’s activities in Cornwall across all media for the purposes of student recruitment, public engagement and reputation building. This includes involvement in local events, community initiatives and marketing activities in person and across web, print and social media. I lead on all the Cornwall-specific marketing literature, for example the University Living Guide for Penryn Campus, and the Welcome to Penryn Campus booklet that is given to prospective applicants.

I also provide support to my colleagues in marketing operations and strategic marketing by providing copy for University publications and websites, and work with both internal communications and the press office, to provide stories for the Weekly Bulletin and local press.

Working closely with the Head of Professional Services for Cornwall, I help to organise community initiatives including quarterly community drop-in sessions, a community newsletter, sponsorship of local festivals, sports club and the Cornwall School Games.

I line manage the Communication Marketing Officer for the Cornwall Campuses.

About me

I joined the University in in December 2016, having previously worked in brand management and marketing management roles at Falmouth University. I have worked in marketing for the majority of my career. Before moving to Cornwall in 2009, I worked in product management with Black and Decker for many years, and was responsible for the launch of many familiar products, such as Dustbuster cordless handheld vacs and a range of other power tools, kits and promotions.

I love living in Cornwall, being able to walk to work and enjoy gig rowing at weekends. The community here is very special and I’m enjoying being part of it, as well as helping to integrate the University into the local towns’ activities and sharing what we do.

Campaign Manager (Postgraduate Research Lead)

About my role

My background is firmly in marketing and I’m one of those strange people who actually knew the career they wanted whilst at school.

I joined the University in September 2007. Before this time I held marketing and business planning roles at the Met Office and in the private sector, studied an MA Marketing and attained Chartered Marketer status with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).

My understanding of prospective postgraduate ‘buyer behaviour’ has more recently led me to complete a CIM Diploma in Digital Marketing.

A large part of my time at the University has been spent leading on postgraduate marketing and recruitment, and more recently having had a family, in a part-time capacity providing support to the Doctoral College for PhD recruitment marketing. Within this role I am developing the marketing channels and materials we use to effectively communicate the benefits of research degrees at the University of Exeter to both domestic and international students. 

The other part of my role is focused around corporate marketing, such as marketing communications around Graduation and ensuring our corporate messaging is accurate and reflects our strengths and priorities.

Campaign Officer (Digital)

About my role

I am the Campaign Officer (Digital) where I work between the Marketing Office and the Digital Team.

I am the team expert on Google Analytics; producing regular and ad hoc reports to help with web traffic measurement and understanding. I also implement online advertising through social media channels such as Google Adwords, Facebook and LinkedIn.

In my Marketing work, I focus on postgraduate study, working closely with the Campaign Manager (PGT). I maintain central information on our postgraduate degrees, and liaise with Taught Faculty and Admissions to ensure that information on our central website and external postgraduate databases is up to date. I assist in event management, supporting the Postgraduate Open Days.

About me

I joined the University of Exeter in 2010 as the Marketing Assistant having previously worked in the foodservice sector as a Marketing Manager for a frozen seafood manufacturer. I completed my BA Marketing degree at Plymouth University in 2008.

Campaign Manager (Postgraduate Taught Lead)

About my role

I’m a Campaign Manager in the Marketing Operations team leading on Post Graduate Taught (PGT) central marketing and various corporate communications projects.

Fifty per cent of my role is focussed on PGT marketing. Working closely with colleagues in colleges, recruitment and admissions, I lead on the production of the annual PG prospectus, oversee the PG study site, coordinate Exeter’s presence at external PG recruitment events, oversee PG Open Days, and manage marketing communications campaigns aimed at encouraging applications to PG study at Exeter. I regularly commission and oversee collateral to support PG marketing including print, videos, web resources, advertising etc.

The other half of my role is focussed on corporate communication campaigns. These range from managing the production of regular publications like the University’s annual review and graduation programmes to one-off campaigns to achieve specific objectives, for example, the employability campaign ‘Loved my degree, love my job’.

About me

After a degree in French at the University of Bristol and a CIM Professional Certificate in Marketing, I began my career in marketing and communications. For more than 15 enjoyable years I’ve developed marketing and communications strategies for a wide range of audiences – from film and theatregoers to teachers and from artists to students. I’ve worked in press and public relations; online, digital and social media; direct marketing; events; and advertising over the years in organisations including a studio theatre, arthouse cinema, government agency, and charities. I started my current role in October 2016 having originally joined the University in 2015 as Communications Manager in Global Engagement and Development, where I edited Exeter Magazine and developed communications campaigns for alumni and supporters. I have extensive experience of speechwriting and copywriting and love working with other people to tell their stories.

Campaign Manager (Undergraduate Lead)

About my role

I’m the Undergraduate Campaign Manager in the Marketing Operations team. I manage production of the annual prospectus, act as owner of the recruitment website, and manage the various advertising, customer relationship management, and other campaigns related to the recruitment of undergraduate students.

About me

I joined the University of Exeter way back in 2002 and worked in the library's film and music department while moonlighting as a music journalist, co-running a successful independent website and writing for publications including NME, The Guardian, and various obscure websites, magazines, and newspapers. After a stint in Academic Services supporting their Communications and Marketing Manager, I joined the Web Team in early 2010 as Research Web Officer, before moving to Marketing in late 2011. In 2014 I became Postgraduate Marketing Manager, and moved to the undergraduate role in 2016. In late 2017 I was seconded to the Student Recruitment Project for 14 months as Business Lead for the Customer Relationship Management strand of activity, where I worked with the project team and colleagues across the whole of Communications and Marketing to strategically implement a new CRM system and methodology.

I have no spare time these days because I have two small children, but I used to ride bikes, watch films, and play football. I still find time to cook, though.

Communications and Marketing Officer (CRM)

About my role

I joined the Student Recruitment Project in June 2018 as a CMO working on the Communications and Marketing phase of the CRM implementation. I am now based partly with the CRM Project Team and partly within CaMS.

I first came to the University on a Graduate Business Partnership working with the Digital Team in 2016, I then worked as a Communications and Marketing Assistant within CaMS on the Penryn Campus before returning to Exeter to work on the CRM in my current role.
