Exeter-Tsinghua Institute of Global Humanities

The University of Exeter and Tsinghua University launched the Institute for Global Humanities in 2024, a landmark initiative convening world-class research and supporting deepening collaboration in the humanities.

About Us

The Institute for Global Humanities opens a new chapter in the Exeter-Tsinghua strategic partnership, deepening opportunity for collaboration in arts and humanities research. The Institute offers a supportive and inclusive, cross-disciplinary research environment for scholars across philosophy, history and languages, literature and cultural and visual studies and other aligned areas of scholarship. The Institute facilitates annual conferences and symposia, staff and student mobility, education partnership and other activities.

The Institute is led through the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HASS) at the University of Exeter and the Department for Foreign Languages and Literatures (DFLL) at Tsinghua University.

  • Call for Applications: Collaborative Project Funding (open till 15 June 2026). We are currently open to applications from HASS academic staff for collaborative research project funding, in collaboration with counterparts at Tsinghua University. The call is open till 15 June 2026, with submissions and queries welcomes at china-partnerships@exeter.ac.uk.   • Exeter-Tsinghua Joint Institute for Global Humanities Summer School 2026, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China
    • Dates: June 29th - July 13th 2026
    • Cost: Fully funded, including accommodation, meals, tuition, and insurance - *International travel is not included and must be covered by successful candidates.*
    • Eligibility: Open to current undergraduate or graduate students in HASS. Strong interest in Chinese culture and language required. Admission is competitive and based on academic merit.
