Network on Family, Regulation and Society Annual Lecture

Family Law Reform is under active consideration in a number of jurisdictions who all face the challenge of how best to adapt the law to the needs of changing family life in the 21st century. Some specific reforms are being considered by the Law Commissions in both England and Wales and Scotland, whilst the Australian Law Reform Commission is conducting the first independent comprehensive review of Australia’s family law system since the commencement of the Family Law Act in 1976. Yet obstacles are often put in the way of Family Law reform and this lecture will analyse why this has been the case and consider the needed ingredients for success at a time when family law reform is a prime focus for concern in England and Wales. 

The lecture will be followed by a discussion of family law reform issues in England and Wales and Scotland led by our Expert Panel:
