To continue to find solutions, new PhD research is needed to help reduce infections, antimicrobial use and slow resistance. The European Centre for Environment and Human Health and the University of Exeter hosts world-leading academics in AMR. The Environment and Sustainability Institute offers a range of interdisciplinary Masters programmes, and provides support for Early Career Researchers. The MRC Centre for Medical Mycology researches molecular pathways leading to antifungal resistance, antifungal prescription practices and antifungal stewardship, and offers MRes and PhD opportunities, as well as Early Career Fellowships. In addition, the Living Systems Institute offers PhD studentship opportunities.

Exeter is a key partner in the GW4 alliance of research-intensive universities, alongside Cardiff, Bristol and Bath.
GW4 hosts 30 externally-funded Doctoral Training Centres and partnerships, in which Exeter plays a major role. They include the Wellcome Trust GW4 Clinical Academic Training Programme and the MRC GW4 BioMed Doctoral Training Partnership. Both these partnerships bring together combined expertise and facilities to offer world-class PhD training in AMR in the South West of England.
