Ruth Flanagan
Rob Freathy Professor of Education My research interests include innovative curricular and pedagogical theories and practices within contemporary Religious Education in schools, as well as the national and international history of religious education broadly conceived.
Taro Fujita Associate Professor of Mathematics Education Taro has worked in the field of mathematics education, first at Glasgow University (BEd) and then at Plymouth University (BEd and PGCE). His current research interests include the history of mathematics education, the teaching and learning of geometry in lower secondary schools, deductive reasoning and intuitive skills in geometry and the use of technology in mathematics education.
Luke Graham Senior Lecturer in Education I was a science teacher and deputy head in rural schools for more than 20 years. My research interest nucleates around pupils with limited participation in education, from rural communities to home-education.
Emese Hall Senior Lecturer in Art Education Having worked in teacher education since 2005, I am particularly interested in researching the value of professional learning communities, artist-teacher practice, and the potential of art education to address Earth Crisis awareness and action.
Matthew Isherwood Lecturer in Creativity & Arts Education My research explores the concept of aesthetic sensibility as a transformative force in art education, fostering new ways of seeing, feeling, and imagining that open possibilities for more inclusive futures.
Caitlin Kight Senior Lecturer in Education Studies My research and teaching are both underpinned by, and focus on, pedagogies of care and liberation. I explore how professional development can support educators in engaging with these approaches, and am particularly interested in self-study and creative reflection. I apply and investigate creative reflection techniques across a range of disciplinary and transdisciplinary settings.
Sally B. Palmer Senior Lecturer in Psychology and Education I am a social and developmental psychologist researching the development of prosocial attitudes and behaviour. I am developing projects on pro-environmental attitudes and action across childhood and adolescence, with a focus on working with minority group members.
Chris Turner Honorary Lecturer My research and writing interests are in aesthoecology, eco-philosophy and transdisciplinarity centred around the emergent crises arising from climate change and environmental degradation, with a particular emphasis on relationality and intergenerational education.
Karen Walshe Associate Professor in Education My research interests include the nature of 'understanding' in education, and specifically, how metaphors for understanding (e.g., UNDERSTANDING IS SEEING and UNDERSTANDING IS GRASPING) reflect the multiplicity of ways in which ‘understanding’ is understood.
Harriet White Lecturer and Senior Research Fellow I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Exeter. My research focuses on how affective, embodied empathy can emerge through posthuman theory, Indigenous knowledges, and relational approaches to environmental education.
Victoria Wong Senior Lecturer in STEM Education I am a science teacher, teacher educator and researcher interested in mathematics in the school science curriculum, science education policy, interdisciplinary work in schools and writing in the science curriculum.
Anita Wood Senior Lecturer in Education I am programme lead for the international trans-disciplinary programme “Schools Across the Ocean” which is currently supporting teachers in UK, UAE and Azerbaijan and working with pupils in diverse classroom settings on ocean and climate literacy.
Heather Wren Postdoctoral Research Fellow I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Exeter. My research focuses on how affective, embodied empathy can emerge through posthuman theory, Indigenous knowledges, and relational approaches to environmental education.
Lucy Yeomans Lecturer in Education My research focusses on the reproduction of inequalities in science education and academia, with a particular interest in social class. I have expertise in qualitative research methods but regularly engage in mixed-methods research designs.

Patricia Hannam

Lecturer in Education My main research interests are in relation to questions as to what education is and what it should seek to do at this point in history, and about the responsibility of teachers and their teaching.
