Overview

I am a Research Fellow in the Environment and Sustainability Institute (ESI) at the University of Exeter Penryn Campus to work on the EPSRC project. I have been employing state-of-the-art ab-initio DFT and MD simulations for the design and fabrication of "Transparent Smart Composite Materials for Glazing Applications".  This Smart Composite Material will consist of a Phase Change Material (PCM), Transparent Insulating Material (TIM), Transparent Infrared Absorber (TIA), and Thermochromic Material (TCM).

Prior to joining the ESI, Dr Adeel Arshad was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at Northumbria University, UK in Mechanical and Construction Engineering. He worked on Solar-to-Alternate Fuel Economy (SAFECONOMY) funded by British Council and KSA. Before that, he worked as a Research Fellow at Aston University, UK on Thermal Energy Systems to do research in an Innovate UK-funded project in the field of waste heat recovery and reuse in foundation industries (WHR-FIND) of the UK. He was the Doctoral Researcher in Fluids & Thermal Engineering (FLUTE) Research Group at the University of Nottingham, UK on a highly competitive, Faculty of Engineering Research Excellence PhD Scholarship. His PhD degree was in Mechanical Engineering specialising in Thermal-Fluids and Advanced Materials. He worked on the development of novel nanocomposite phase change materials (NCPCMs) using various metallic-oxide and carbon-based nanomaterials for novel thermal management and thermal energy storage technologies. He did the MSc in Mechanical Engineering major in Thermal-Fluids from the University of Engineering and Technology, Taxila, Pakistan securing Gold Medal. In his MSc research, he has worked on passive thermal management of portable electronic devices using various phase change materials (PCMs) with the inclusion of pin-fin and plate-fin heat sinks. He did the BSc in Mechanical Engineering from COMSATS University Islamabad, Pakistan and was awarded the Campus and Institute Gold Medals. He worked on the development and characterisation of nanocomposite and shape-stabilized PCMs using various mono and hybrid metallic-oxide and carbon-based nanoparticles. He further analysed the micro pin-fin and coated metal-foam heat sinks filled nanocomposite PCMs both experimentally and numerically using ANSYS-FLUENT and COMSOL Multiphysics.

He is also ranked in World’s Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University, USA in 2021 and 2022. He has also been nominated for The Scopus Early Career Researcher UK Award 2020 by Elsevier.
