Lyndsey Carmichael

Postgraduate Teaching Associate - School of Education
Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences

I am the Academic Manager for Foundation Modules at the International Study Centre and well as working alongside my PhD I work as a Postgraduate Teaching Associate in the School of Education.  In these roles, I manage a team, support staff, plan academic programmes and delivery. I design and deliver teaching and workshops that enable students to engage critically with their academic practice. I also worked as a Reflective Tutor for the Realising Opportunities programme, where I provide online feedback and guidance to students from widening participation backgrounds.

In addition to my teaching, I am the founder of Parents and Family Support (PAFs), a funded university-wide initiative that offers advocacy, events, and community support for postgraduate researchers and staff with caring responsibilities. My doctoral research, also based at Exeter, which explores international students’ experiences of online higher education, with a particular focus on equity, belonging, and progression for under-represented groups. More broadly, my academic interests centre on online pedagogy, reflective practice, and widening participation in higher education.
