How to correctly emphasise text

Advisory

The information on this page is only applicable if you're editing the University webpages using T4. It presumes that you have already completed the beginners and advanced level of the T4 training (a link for staff only - opens in new window).

Introduction

The title of this section, 'How to correctly emphasise text', includes the word 'correctly' because there are lots of possible ways to visually emphasise text, but many of them can have unintended consequences.

It's also important that any emphasised text is correctly coded, so that those who can't see the page – they may be listening to it, or feeling it using a braille reader – will still have the emphasis communicated to them.

This section also looks at how headings and emphasis can work together.
