Accommodation in Cornwall

Applying

Applications for new students open each year in early April and are made via the online accommodation booking system Room Service.

To apply for accommodation you must have firmly accepted a course offer with University of Exeter as your first choice.

On your application you will be asked to select your accommodation options in order of preference.

Rooms will be allocated through a series of ballots which aim to match you to one of the preferences on your application. You can only submit one application, during one of three ballot periods. The latest information on accommodation for new students can be found on the accommodation website.

Before making an application for accommodation you need to register an account on the accommodation portal Room Service. This can be done at the time of applications opening but to speed up the application process you can register for an account in advance. When you have firmly accepted your course offer you will receive an email from the university with your student ID number. You will need this to create an account.

To start your registration please visit the Room Service website. You will not be able to select accommodation preferences or submit an application until applications open. You can find these dates on the accommodation website.

Glasney Student Village and The Sidings are available to students studying with the University of Exeter.

In addition to Glasney Student Village and The Sidings we may have availability, by special request, in other residencies. Please request this in the notes section of your application in ‘Room Service’. These accommodation options are predominantly allocated to Falmouth University students and so are subject to availability for University of Exeter students. They do however offer a more diverse range of housing to choose from, including studios.

Prices vary depending on the room type and size, further information can be found on the FX Plus website or email accommodation@fxplus.ac.uk.

For details on our room quotas and how we allocate please see the accommodation website.

Applications for new students will open in early April

Accommodation applications are made via Room Service, the online accommodation application system. In order to complete an application you must have accepted and confirmed a place at the University of Exeter as your first choice. Accommodation information will be sent to you via email once you have accepted a firm course offer.

To register through Room Service and make an application you will need:

1. Your nine digit student ID number (Exeter Ref No.) which will be sent in an email with a link to our website (this is not your UCAS number)

2. We require your full legal first and last name for contract purposes

3. Your date of birth

4. An email address that will be available to you throughout the whole process (a school or college email address is not suitable as you will lose access to the account during the Summer and this will mean that you miss important information)

If you are unsure of your student ID number please contact the Admissions team.

When you have successfully registered online, you will receive an automated email message with a validation code that you will need to enter the first time you log in. Once you have logged in you will be able to complete and submit an online application form. You will not need to use the validation code again.

Once logged in you will then be taken through the application pages where you will be asked to select your accommodation preferences. Once you submit your online application you will receive an email confirmation and information on what happens next. You can also log in to your online Room Service account to check the status of your application.

We recommend that those who miss the guarantee deadline still contact the Accommodation Office to check availability and discuss your options.

Room Allocations

Rooms will be allocated through a series of ballots which aim to match you to one of the preferences on your application. You can only submit one application, during one of three ballot periods. Further information can be found on the FX Plus accommodation pages.

Offers

Offers of accommodation will be made to undergraduate students when the condition of their academic offer has been met, so for the majority of students this will be after their A level results in August.

Students who apply for accommodation that hold an unconditional firm place will receive an offer within 28 days of the ballot deadline.

Students that hold a conditional firm place will be provisionally allocated accommodation after the ballot deadline and will receive their offer of accommodation only after their course offer changes to unconditional firm.

If you are made an offer of accommodation you will be sent an email with a link to the accommodation portal 'Room Service'. You will need to log in to access details of your accommodation offer. All students accepting an offer must provide details of a guarantor who will also be required to sign and return an agreement.

Please note the following important information about your offer:

  • You will have 5 days to accept your offer and pay the £300 deposit.
  • Check your offer carefully and ensure that you read all of the information.
  • If you or your guarantor miss the deadline to accept your offer you will lose your room and we may not be able to offer you another.

The Sidings

The offer process on Room Service does not apply if you are offered accommodation at The Sidings. We will allocate your room and pass the details on your application to CRM Students (the company that manages The Sidings). You will then be required to continue your booking using their online system. CRM Students will make you an offer of accommodation and you will be asked to pay a deposit and provide a guarantor.

Ten days prior to the start of contract you will be required to pay 4 weeks rent in advance.

Please note you do not need to complete an offer on Room Service as well. Your accommodation contract will not be with Falmouth Exeter Plus.
