International Student Support

The International Student Support team is here to ensure you can get the most out of your experience at the University of Exeter.

Our International Students Guide gives you all the information you need to prepare for your time at Exeter, including applying for a visa, how to access healthcare in the UK, and what to expect as a student. You can attend our webinars and ask questions or watch the presentations on a variety of themes to help you prepare for coming to university.

Our International Welcome Programme for Exeter and Cornwall features information sessions and social events to help you settle in quickly on arrival. We also run Late Arrivals sessions for those arriving on campus outside Welcome and Orientation.

  • The Student Information Desk service can answer questions about university accommodation, fees and funding, transcripts and certificates and more. They’re available in person, by phone, or online.
  • Academic support is available from our Info Points and Hubs in our campus buildings, to answer queries about timetables, submitting work, mitigation, welfare support or changes to study programmes.
  • All students are allocated a personal tutor or supervisor within their academic department for personal, academic or professional development support.
  • We offer free English skills development and Intercultural Communication support for students in adjusting to academic study in the UK, which may be different from what you are used to, as well as free English language classes for the spouses of students.

Taking care of your physical and mental wellbeing while you’re at university is essential. We have support available to all our students 24/7, so there is always someone to talk to if you need it, wherever you are:

  • Our friendly Wellbeing Services are here for students experiencing tough emotional times.  Our Student Health Centres can help with healthcare needs, and our Disability Support team is there for students with a disability or long-term health condition.
  • We have a Multifaith Chaplaincy Team - made up of volunteers from a variety of faith backgrounds
  • Our Residence Life Team provide support and advice to students living in University accommodation.  Our Community Engagement Officers provide support for students living in private accommodation, and all of our campuses have 24/7 security, safety and welfare services.
  • The Students’ Guild in Exeter and Students’ Union in Penryn support student activity on campus, represent the student voice, provide independent advice and much more.
  • International students can take part in our Global Chums mentoring scheme, which provides support to students during their first 6 weeks of term.
  • We run a weekly, themed Intercultural Café for you to meet new friends and explore new ideas.

We also provide lots of ways to get involved with our University community, through our organised celebrations and initiatives which can help students make friends and adapt to the culture of the UK.

We love sharing art, performance, food, and other aspects of all the cultures on campus, and always celebrate events like Diwali and Spring Festival with fireworks!

More information on all of this support is shared with all students before they join the university.
