Solar research group achieves combined Impact Award win

The University of Exeter Impact Awards took place last night at the Streatham Campus in Exeter, celebrating the diverse range of research taking place across the University with world-wide benefits.

The Environment and Sustainability Institute (ESI) received a combined award in the Outstanding Impact in Sustainable Futures category showcasing the work of Professor Tapas Mallick’s solar research group.

Speaking of the group’s win, IBM Vice-President Jeremy Budd, Award Sponsor, joked that he would have to double the sponsorship money and Dr Richard Cresswell, South West Director of the Environment Agency commented upon the impact the ESI has made less than a year after its official opening in April.

Pictured above (left to right) are ESI postgraduate students Hasan Baig, and Associate Research Fellow Dr Nazmi Sellami, all members of the group. They are shown accompanied by the University Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive, Professor Sir Steve Smith, and Dame Stephanie Shirley, philanthropist and keynote speaker.

Winners were announced in eight categories; see the full list of winners and their projects online.
