Geography

MSc by Research Geography

The MSc by Research in Geography allows you to undertake a research project in an area that interests you, without the commitment of a longer term MPhil or PhD.

The programme is 24 months part-time and like other research degrees you will be required to work independently, but with the support and guidance of an appropriate supervisor. To complete your MSc by Research you will produce a thesis or a scientific paper up to 40,000 words in length (compared to 60,000 words for an MPhil and 100,000 words for a PhD).

The dissertation will not need to constitute an original contribution to knowledge but will need to provide evidence that you have worked at the current limits of understanding of the subject and should extend the knowledge of the subject.

If you are interested in pursuing an MSc by Research with us, you will first need to establish your research topic and visit our staff research pages to identify a suitable supervisor. Please then contact the College to discuss your application.
