Student Recycling

FREE Food Waste Collections

If you’re living in private accommodation in Exeter, you can use the city's free weekly doorstep food waste collection service. Most student properties should already have been provided with both an indoor kitchen caddy and an outdoor food waste caddy by the landlord or letting agent. The service is completely free of charge, although a small number of landlords and agents still assume this is a charged service. There is no charge for Exeter residents to have their food waste collected separately.

Using your food caddy is an easy way to reduce the amount of waste going into your general rubbish bin and helps ensure food waste is recycled properly. Food waste collections are available across Exeter and are collected weekly.

If your property does not have a food waste caddy, replacement caddies can be ordered from Exeter City Council via the food waste service page:

For guidance on what can and cannot go into your food waste caddy, see:

Typical items that can be recycled include cooked and uncooked food, fruit and vegetable peelings, meat and fish (including bones), bread, rice, pasta, tea bags and coffee grounds. Packaging, liquids and non-food items should not be placed in the food waste caddy.
