PGR International Student Support
We celebrate the diversity of our PGR student population with more than 150 international students currently studying at the Exeter from across 140 countries.
There are many sources for international student support at Exeter. The sections below outline what support can be accessed and further sources of information.
The Doctoral College has a PGR Welfare Advisor who can provide guidance, advice and signposting on a range of issues relating to all PGR welfare, health and personal issues. They can also assist with supporting PGR students to study by ensuring that Individual Learning Plans are put in place.
The Doctoral College Wellbeing webpages contain information about specific support that you can access, including support from your supervisory team, Researcher Development and Wellbeing Services sessions and online support mechanisms.
The International Support team at Exeter are able to provide support on specific International student matters such as visa processes, travelling to the UK (including Airport Collection Service), International Welcome Programme, advice about living in the UK and how to get the most out of your time at Exeter with regards to specific International Student events, societies and community groups. They run a regular Intercultural Café each Friday in term time which is an excellent opportunity to meet other students.
Preparatory and in degree English language and study skills sessions are provided at both the Exeter and Penryn Campuses. The Doctoral College Researcher Development team also provide a wealth of training and information sources for PGR students including writing support and many other training and development opportunities.
The Exeter Students’ Guild (Exeter Campus Students) and the Falmouth and Exeter Students’ Union (Penryn Campus Students) are available to provide students with advice and guidance through their studies, as well as representation arrangements, student societies and events.
Many international students receive studentships from Research Councils or Colleges. If you have a query regarding your current funding you should contact your relevant PGR Manager.
International students are eligible to apply for the Success for All Fund if they find themselves in financial hardship.
If you are in a position where you are unable to pay your tuition fees you should speak to the University Accounts Receivable Team who may be able to arrange a payment plan with you. Further information about eligibility to claim benefits and other external support on offer is available online and the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) also has further information for international students in the UK who are experiencing financial hardship.
