Researchers in Schools

Researchers in Schools aims to bring the expertise of Higher Education to Exeter schools, inspiring a future generation to engage with academia.

In association with FUTURES 2024, University of Exeter researchers have been working with Exeter Science Centre to deliver the 'Our World From Space' project. This programme works with the region's schools and communities to deliver hands-on-workshops, helping people connect with science and technology a new, exciting way.

Academics like University of Exeter’s Dr Steven Palmer help students work through activities related to their research – in Steven’s case, using satellite radar measurements to investigate the flow of Arctic glaciers. School staff reported that “the students benefitted massively from a variety of activities” and “were able to see real life applications of science that we do not cover in the curriculum”.

Throughout 2024-2025, the team brought these activities to local secondary schools: St James School, Isca Academy, and St Luke’s Church of England School.
