About this Programme:. The training programme consists of four two-hour online sessions, taking place on the following dates (you will need to commit to all sessions):. Thursday 5 March 2026 (10.30 am - 12.30 pm). Thursday 12 March 2026 (10.30 am - 12.30 pm). Thursday 19 March 2026 (10.30 am - 12.30 pm). Thursday 26 March 2026 (10.30 am - 12.30 pm). Over four, 2 hour long online Teams sessions you will join other mid-career colleagues in reflecting on your career to date, before exploring how you can consider and action how you may approach your institution's internal promotional pathways. The sessions will be a mix of focused individual work, small group work and short talks and question and answer sessions from specialists internal and external to your university. The workshops will explore key themes such as research culture, institutional citizenship, research and teaching impact and academic leadership and communication.
Learning outcomes: As a result of attending this course, you will be able to:. - Understand the academic mid-career landscape. - Recognise where my career fits within the academic mid-career landscape. - Be able to use my previous professional experience to populate the institution's internal promotion criteria. - Understand different types of academic leadership and recognise what type of leader I am/want to be. - Understand the importance of network building and clear communication in order to progress within the academic mid-career. Who should attend this session:. The training programme is open to anyone who self-identifies as mid-career or late stage ECR. If you have accessibility requirements, please contact researcherdevelopment@exeter.ac.uk in advance to discuss further. Presenter:. The training is run by Professor Amy Bonsall. Amy is the founder and chair of Women in Academia Support Network (WIASN). She holds a doctorate in intercultural theatre and is Professor (Hon) of Performance and Communication at the University of Kent. She is an honorary research fellow at Royal Holloway University of London and is an expert in applied theatre and arts based practice in research. She is an EDI consultant and trainer, and is an international executive communications coach. She is a multi-award winning academic and advocate, her awards include: Shaw Trust Power 100 influencer (2021) and the 2022 Northern Digital Award for EDI. What previous candidates have said:.
