Research and Innovation Essentials Series: An introduction to Impact: understanding, funding, evaluating and communicating impact

You will receive an email with the access link from ResearcherDevelopment@exeter.ac.uk the day before the webinar is due to take place. The consequences of your research can be wide-ranging. Some of it you will have anticipated and will have developed from meticulous planning with partners, others will materialise almost by serendipity or through the actions of others responding and building upon your research. Most funders increasingly have an expectation that they will fund impactful and engaged research and your ability to demonstrate your understanding of the potential impact and to articulate that is often key to your success. In addition, the ability to communicate the potential and realised impact of your research to different audiences, especially a lay audience, can be hugely beneficial. This training session will give you an overview of some of the key definitions, concepts, tools and approaches relating to impact. It will also give you an overview of where you might turn to for information about opportunities to fund your impact and where you can get support in these endeavours. The session will comprise of a combination of discussion and interactive exercises and will cover the following: - Definitions. - Conceptualising potential impact and planning evaluations - tools and frameworks. - Putting together applications and embedding your pathway towards impact. - Supporting your impact-focused activities. - Reporting your outcomes and impact: funder requirements (eg Researchfish). - Articulating your societal and economic impact: evidence and evaluation. - Communicating your impact: stories and case studies (incl REF case studies) and how they might be used.
