Module description
This first-year module forms part of the LLB Law with Business with either a Professional or Industrial Placement and the Business and Laws BBL with either a Professional or Industrial Placement. Thís non-credit bearing module provides you with both the opportunity to understand what employers want and how to start acquiring the necessary skills. You will also learn how to start identifying and applying for a professional or industrial placement with an organisation appropriate to your own interests. Completion of all sessions is mandatory unless specified as optional.
Module aims - intentions of the module
The non-credit bearing module will inform you what employers are looking for, how to identify your existing skills and personal qualities and how to continue acquiring those key skills. You will be given advice on how to write an effective CV for this type of application, cover letter and application form, how to start researching relevant organisations and you will be introduced to networking opportunities.

- Introduction to the Preparing for Placements module and the benefits of placements.
- Understanding what employers are looking for
- Appraisal of and building on your existing employability skills.
- Building your profile and use of LinkedIn.
- Creating your CV.
- Locating placements.
- Effective application forms and cover letters.
- Presentations and networking opportunities with previous placement students.
