Working with students
Many Professional Services staff have regular contact with students as part of their role. In some roles this can be purely as a service-provider (eg serving in a shop or food outlet), in other roles you may be providing direct support and help or even assessing the work of a student.
LTHE
For staff who do provide such support our LTHE (Learning and Teaching in Higher Education) programme is an excellent way to explore how all kinds of interactions with students can lead to learning and offer the opportunity to explore the knowledge, understanding, skills and values needed to enable students to learn effectively in a modern higher education environment.
Some professions can also take advantage of customised LTHE workshops: these are advertised within the relevant Professional home - visit the Professional Development Frameworks which contain the relevant links.
ASPIRE
Staff who have more formal teaching responsibilities (eg technical staff who demonstrate in practical classes) may need to follow the ASPIRE route.
Wider development opportunities
The following courses are aimed at supporting staff, however, many of the skills and techniques discussed will also be helpful when working with and supporting students.
