Preparing to arrive
Due to the large number of students who will be arriving in Exeter over the arrivals weekend a timed arrival system will be in place for all arrivals. This is due to the very limited number of parking spaces within the grounds of our residences and to ensure that all students who wish to can arrive over that period.
Once you have a contract with us and you have received a Contract Formation email you will be asked to complete an induction and book your arrival. This system will open in early August and you will receive an email to alert you when the system is available.
We will ask you to advise us of your arrival date and approximate time of arrival by booking an arrival slot so that we can ensure your accommodation is ready and available to you.
Between 9:00am and 6:00pm you will be asked to book a 30-minute arrival slot at your residence. If you need to arrive later, then an arrival slot between 6:00pm and 10:00pm will also be available over the arrivals period.
If you are arriving with a vehicle, to ensure that each student has adequate time to unload and so that congestion is kept to a minimum both in the vicinity of the residences and generally on campus, you able to select a 30 minutes timeslot to unload. You need to arrive, unload your belongings and remove the vehicle from the residence parking area within 30 minutes after which the vehicle will need to be moved to alternative longer term parking. This will then allow other students to arrive.
During the booking process, if you will be arriving with a vehicle which you will need to unload, you will be asked to print a permit for this vehicle. Please note that this permit is valid for the booked arrival slot only, and cannot be used for university parking at any other times.
During arrivals weekend car parking attendants will be on hand at the residences to advise and assist you. They will also ensure that vehicles move on after unloading.
A space will only be available for you to unload your vehicle at the residence at your booked arrival time.
If you arrive early please make your way to one of the longer term parking options to wait for your booked time. Please remember that you will not be able to park at the residence again over arrivals weekend so that all students can have a dedicated time to arrive.
Subject to government guidance at the time of arrival, we may ask you to limit the number of people helping you to move belongings into your bedroom/flat. We would also ask that you do not brings pets with you (with the exception of assistance animals).
Please arrive to your residence where staff will register your arrival and provide instructions on how to proceed to your room. The keys must be collected by the resident and only they will be allowed into the key collection area.
If we have a large number of arrivals on a specific day, we may have marshals on campus and at our residences to co-ordinate traffic.

Due to the number of timed arrival slots available, accommodation blocks may have a limited number of residents as some students may choose not to arrive until teaching begins so you may find that not all rooms are occupied when you move into the accommodation.
Your accommodation will be available from the start date of your contract and students who will be staying within University of Exeter residences are advised not to arrive any earlier than the date their contract begins. However, we do understand that arriving early may be necessary and if this is the case, we would ask that you contact the Accommodation team to discuss the options available to you. If an early arrival is possible, this may mean that you will need to reside in alternative accommodation for any period before your contract start date and then move again once your term-time contract begins.
