The successful candidate is likely to be a recent school or college leaver who has an interest in beginning a career in financial services. Apprentices will be trained on the job as well as being given periodic study leave in order to obtain the relevant qualifications to achieve each apprenticeship.

It is an intensive role and successful candidates will need to be engaged, proactive and hardworking for the full 48-month duration. Support will of course be provided to help you succeed.

Data Scientist Apprentice

SWASFT has responsibility for the provision of ambulance services across an area of 10,000 square miles which is 20% of mainland England. The Trust covers the counties of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and the former Avon area (Bristol, Bath, North and North East Somerset and South Gloucestershire).

The Trust serves a total population of over 5.5 million and is estimated to receive an influx of over 23 million visitors each year. The operational area is predominantly rural but also includes large urban centres including Bristol, Plymouth, Exeter, Bath, Swindon, Gloucester, Bournemouth and Poole.

We have 94 ambulance stations, three clinical control rooms, six air ambulance bases and two Hazardous Area Response Teams (HART).

The Trust provides the clinical teams for six air ambulances (two in Devon, one in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, one shared across Dorset and Somerset, one in Wiltshire and one based near Bristol).

We employ over 4,000 mainly clinical and operational staff (including Paramedics, Emergency Care Practitioners, Advanced Technicians, Ambulance Care Assistants and Nurse Practitioners) plus GPs and around 2,785 volunteers (including community first responders, BASICS doctors, fire co-responders and volunteer PTS drivers).

The Data Scientist Apprentice will assist the Forecasting and Capacity Planning Team in all manner of operational investigations, predictive data analytics and modelling, providing evidence for strategic and operational decisions, and support the Associate Director of Operations (Resource Management) in shaping the wider organisation.

The team is accountable for accurately predicting future challenges in the delivery of emergency care in the South West of England. The role of the Data Scientist Apprentice will include:

  • To provide statistical insight about SWAST, including robust analytics surrounding activity and performance;
  • To support the translation of analytical findings into real-world processes and as such provide evidence for service redesign;
  • To support projects to design, develop, test and validate intelligent modelling and predictive systems to improve information sharing and analysis;
  • Use mathematical, statistical and operational strategy techniques to effectively model and analyse a variety of statistical information, and make recommendations based on findings to improve operational, tactical and strategic business decisions;
  • Develop and refine data visualisation systems to present analytical results;
  • Make recommendations and determine impact of proposed strategic and operational changes using data driven approaches;
  • To communicate findings to all levels of management and respond tactfully to challenge of assumptions and results;
  • To support team projects and take accountability for the technical content and output;
  • To critically review work and analytical findings produced by the team and colleagues;
  • Work with local university and experts to validate new methodologies and proposed models; including writing proposals for additional funding.

The duration of the Apprenticeship contract will be 4 years. You will work towards a BSc Digital and Technology Solutions Degree.  This will be supported by a combination of training and practical work experience.

We are seeking to recruit and train six Clinical Associate Psychologists into our Adult Mental Health Service. This is a new and very exciting development and we welcome this expansion of our existing team of ten psychological therapists. You are very welcome to apply if you have a degree in psychology and experience of mental health work, ideally within the NHS.

The role will include working with people with severe and enduring mental health problems. You will be trained to a Masters-level by the University of Exeter. Once qualified, (the course will be 18 months) you will then be employed as a band 6. You will be supervised throughout the apprenticeship by Clinical Psychologists alongside other psychological therapy colleagues. You will be based in pairs for 4.5 months in one service area and then rotate.
