Prompters:
- how would you relate oral history methodology to translating cultures?
- does the key 'translation' move from oral communication to a transcribed interview if it is subsequently published in written form? What are the issues here?
-Are there also issues in selecting material if a recording of an interview is published?
-What about the researcher adding the academic apparatus of footnotes to a published interview - so translating a single spoken encounter to a resource for the wider academic community?
-Are there other processes where the metaphor of translation is appropriate? translation as negotiation of meaning? Translation as intercultural communication?
The panel will be over at 5 pm. However, please note that our event will continue at the Phoenix at 7.30 pm with the screening of ¡Vámonos, Bárbara! by Cecilia Bartolome', with English subtitles.
The film has been subtitled into English by MA students in TS Studies. The screening will be followed by a conversation. Please see a poster attached and how to book.
ps: The film was also shown in March at the Viva Manchester Film Festival and was very successful.
