Kecia Ali is a scholar of Islam and gender. She writes primarily about Islamic law and ethics and has recently turned her attention to questions of academic sexism in religious studies generally and in Islamic studies specifically. In addition to The Woman Question in Islamic Studies, her books include Marriage and Slavery in Early Islam; Sexual Ethics and Islam; Imam Shafi‘i: Scholar and Saint; and The Lives of Muhammad. She has also edited two open access readers about American Muslim marriage and divorce. She is Professor of Religion at Boston University, where she joined the faculty in 2006.
