Simon Fraser University Partnership
Overview
The Exeter-Simon Fraser University Partnership is a double-degree partnership between the University of Exeter (UoE) and Simon Fraser University (SFU). With three campuses in the Metro Vancouver area, SFU is one of Canada’s best recognised comprehensive universities (#1 Nationally, Maclean’s University Rankings 2025).Through this partnership, undergraduate students will have the opportunity to enrol on a 6-year pathway after which they will hold both a UoE LLB (obtained in three years) and an SFU undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, obtained in three years rather than four.
Students will start their journey at Simon Fraser University for 2 years before coming to the University of Exeter for 3 years. Then, students return to SFU for their final year of study. In their final year at SFU, students on this programme will also have a chance to take modules preparing them for the exams of the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) facilitating entry to Canadian legal practice with foreign law degree.
Students enrolling on this programme at SFU will be part of an ‘Exeter class’ with opportunities to meet tutors before coming to Exeter; receiving practical information about travel and life in Exeter from our dedicated Student Admissions teams; invitations to online events; and a dedicated programme director.

Canadian students who take an LLB programme at the University of Exeter can return to practice in Canada by applying for admission to a law society in a Canadian jurisdiction through taking exams through the National Committee for Accreditation (NCA). The NCA issue a Certificate of Qualification upon successful completion.
Students may have to take up to seven exams upon return to Canada (it varies depending on the programme studied and the professional experience gained), but these can usually be completed through a programme of self-study. Exeter enjoys links with the NCA and offers a yearly seminar to students to help with module choice and applications to the NCA.
